For fleece fun and barn dancing on July 26 and 27, take I-25 South to Glenrock, exit 160, and make a left off the interstate and then another a left at Boxelder Road.
Drive under the freeway and to the left Star *K Ranch will be hosting the Yak About Annual Fleece, Crafts, Festival and Trade Show, which will include a barn dance and barbecue on Saturday night.
Brenda and Colton Stark, owners of Star *K Ranch, felt compelled to share the joy they have found living in Wyoming with their community.
"I love Glenrock," Brenda said in an interview with the Casper Journal.
The Starks moved to Wyoming in 1991 and along with their son and his family, who recently moved to ranch, are planning to make their property a family-run business.
The Starks’ store, Star *K Tack and Feed, is littered with gifts among ranching supplies and will be open during the weekend's festivities.
Brenda, a crafter for five years, also raises horses and tends to yaks. She and Colton decided to hold a craft show last year on their land with an estimated 300-400 people in attendance.
The idea to give this year's festival proceeds to a nonprofit organization started when one of her stallion colts was bought for a young woman with disabilities who wanted to ride in Special Olympics.
Brenda decided then that her fleece festival should give back to the community she loves so dearly.
The proceeds of the barn dance, barbecue and 50/50 raffle will benefit Reach 4A Star Riding Academy this year. Future Yak About support will go to different nonprofit organizations each year.
Live music for the barn dance will be provided by the Avengers, who play for the crowd whether it is classic rock or western, according to drummer Bob McGee.
The four-piece band includes Roger Avery on guitar, Norm Prager on bass, Bob McGee on drums, and Linda Whitcher on keyboards.
"A barn dance is a ball," McGee said when describing the sort of venues where the band has played.
Brenda noted there will be western décor and bales of hay surrounding the dance area and suggests not to wear flip flops due to the dirt floor of the barn.
There will be 38 vendors in the indoor arena selling a variety of merchandise. In conjunction with the barn dance, the Glenrock Chamber of Commerce will host a barbecue dinner.
Kids’ activities will be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., including pony rides and a tractor, race car, dump truck and other heavy equipment for children to explore.
The event has free admission. The barn dance and barbecue, which start at 6 p.m. Saturday, have a $14 cover charge or $12 if bought in advance.
