A new collaboration between the Youth Crisis Center and the Five Trails Rotary Club will bring recognition to those who quietly work to better the lives of Casper’s children.
For the first time, the two organizations will jointly present the Bob Forrister Youth Award.
The YCC Board of Trustees created the Forrister award in 1985, named in honor of R.M. “Bob” Forrister, a retired District Court judge, for his career-long dedication to juvenile matters.
The annual award winner is an individual or organization who is selected by the YCC board from among those nominated by the community.
Past winners have included a broad spectrum of community volunteers for youth programs and services, including nurses, baseball coaches, pastors and others who have contributed in some way to the mental or physical well-being of young people.
“There’s no criteria other than service to youth,” said YCC board President Fred Dyer at a news conference. “We recognize people that work behind the scenes, back in the shadows.”
Five Trails Rotary, which is celebrating its 15th year of providing community service, agreed to step in to sponsor the award dinner this year.
Since 1985, the award and dinner had been funded by an anonymous donor, who recently died.
“When we were asked to fill this void for recognizing “behind the scenes” people, we immediately answered, ‘yes,’” said past Rotary president Nancy Doelger.
Five Trails Rotary has set aside Thursday, Sept. 11, for the award presentation.
Nominations for the Bob Forrister Youth Award can be submitted in a letter to the Youth Crisis Center, 915 S. McKinley St., Casper 82601 or by fax to 577-5718.
Nominations will be accepted until July 28. For information, call Dick Dresang at the YCC, 577-5718.
