A memorial service for Carl Robert Carlsen, 80, was held at 2 p.m. July 17, 2008, at First Christian Church. A private family burial took place prior to the memorial service.

Mr. Carlsen died July 12, 2008, at Wyoming Medical Center. He was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Laurens, Iowa, to Axel Sorenus and Lena Kathryn (Larsen) Carlsen.

He attended Morningside College and married Joanne Meredith in 1949.

They moved to Denver while he attended and later graduated from Iliff School of Theology. Mr. Carlsen was a Methodist minister for 23 years.

He returned to school and attended the University of Northern Colorado and graduated with a degree in education and taught in the Natrona County School District for 20 years.

Mr. Carlsen’s interests were reading, community service, travel and crafts.

Survivors include his children, Craig Carlsen of Casper, Dean Carlsen of Crawfordville, Fla., and Lynne Barry of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

The family would appreciate memorials to First Christian Church of Casper or the Natrona County Public Library.
