Obituaries

Dean P. Hlava

A funeral service for Dean P. Hlava, 89, was held at 11 a.m. July 16, 2008, at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, with Pastors Lynn Williamson and Dale Fitzsimmons officiating.

Interment was in Oregon Trail State Veterans’ Cemetery. The United Veterans’ Council and Wyoming National Guard accorded military rites.

Mr. Hlava died July 12, 2008, at Central Wyoming Hospice of natural causes. He was born July 26, 1918, in Ravenna, Neb., to Emil and LaVern (Davidson) Hlava.

He attended the University of Nebraska, and worked as an auditor for Burlington Railroad for 45 years.

After his retirement, Mr. Hlava worked as an accountant at Pat’s Meat Discounter.

He met Doris Gerts in Santa Monica, Calif. They were married on April 22, 1945, in Santa Monica. They moved to Casper in 1956 from Chicago.

Mr. Hlava was a member of the American Legion, Post Commander in Chicago and was on the board of directors for Burlington Credit Union.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, doing woodworking, traveling and the stock market.

Survivors include his wife of Casper; three daughters, Susan Thomas of Fruita, Colo., Karen Barrett of Redlands, Calif., and Debra Dandurand of Casper; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a nephew; a niece; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph Hlava.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper 82601.

Bustard’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
