Motorcycle enthusiasts ride on Thunder Thursdays

Karst Motorsports’ Thunder Thursdays are getting bigger every week, and motorcyclists are now preparing for a Super Thunder Thursday, which will take place in late August.

Store owner Don Higbee began Thunder Thursdays this summer to give customers a chance to get together for rides, barbecues and other recreation.

They have traveled to the Glenrock, Rolling Hills, Douglas, Alcova and other points of interest.

Rides to Kaycee and Buffalo are planned for the near future a weekly ride to show customers their appreciation and enjoy the summer months with other bikers.

The goal of the owner and staff was to show that they are committed to motorcycling.

“It’s a great time and a great ride,” said participant Chuck Kline, adding that it is a good way to spend time with friends.

Anyone with a motorcycle of any make or model is welcome to join in the rides, Higbee said.

Bikers meet every Thursday at about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot, and leave at 5:45 p.m.

“It’s a laid back, let’s go for a ride on a Thursday night,” Higbee said, adding that he believes that is what people like about it.

They have relied on grass roots advertising to promote the Thursday rides with great results. Several customers and new riders have joined, with 20-26 bikers typically showing up each week.

The Karst Motorsports staff is putting together Super Thunder Thursday, with the time and date to be announced in the next two weeks.

The event will be held at the store, and feature a cookout and live music. Anyone is welcome to attend.

A local poker run also is in the works for August, according to Higbee. Riders will stop by participating local businesses, picking up a card at each. The holder of the highest hand and the lowest hand will win a prize.

Higbee and his wife are motorcycle enthusiasts who love to take their bikes out for a ride together. Ramirez and some of the other staff members also ride motorcycles.
