City to annex property near Mountain Plaza

by Carol Crump
Wednesday, July 1, 2009 1:04 PM MDT

The City of Casper is in the process of annexing the property west of Wal-Mart that was traded by the school district. The area owned by Mesa Development will have a combination of business and residential zoning.

According to Mesa Development representative Keith Tyler, the 40 plus acres that make up Mountain Plaza Addition 5 that are closest to the new Fort Caspar Academy could include a dense single family project with narrow streets and open spaces with a community square.

An area north of the school site may be the location of a higher density assisted living complex for seniors. Plans are being finalized for a 51-unit assisted living center on the property.

The project will fill a need for a west side senior care center that combines assisted and independent living opportunities, said developer Randy Hall. A site plan for the new facility may be scheduled for review by the City of Casper Planning and Zoning Commission next month.

Commercial areas will be closer to Wyoming Boulevard to buffer existing residential neighborhoods in Wolf Creek.

The annexation and preliminary plat and zoning were approved by the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission on June 23. Final approval will be on a City Council agenda in July.
