In a period of just two days last week, Park Elementary School students gathered 367 pairs of footwear to be shipped to Haiti. Retired Natrona County School District employee Betty Clanton chartered a plane to begin the effort, and Paulette Moore of Roosevelt High School e-mailed information about the project to district teachers and other staff members. Above, first- and second-grade students in Sue Berchenbriter and Laura McCleary’s classes stand with the shoes, boots, sandals, flip-flops, slippers and crocs collected. Class members counted the shoes in a mathematics exercise. Gabe Reynolds was the closest in guessing how many pairs of shoes would be collected. His guess was 365 pairs.
