Even Start supports Children’s Dental Health Month
February is Children's Dental Health Month, and Casper Even Start joined the commemoration by hosting dental hygienist Jean Hanway from the office of Dr. Shaun Sutherland.

KWHS’ Underwood named Siemens ‘top achiever’
The Siemens Foundation revealed the nation’s top achievers in Advanced Placement Program (AP) science and mathematics courses, and furthered its long-standing commitment to honoring excellence in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Kelly Walsh High School math teacher Rebecca Underwood has been selected from Wyoming.

FFA members hold Creed Speaking Contest
Casper Future Farmers of America held its annual FFA Creed Speaking Contest on Jan. 26. Tate Chamberlain finished first, Kailey Richner was second and Lauren Hedges third. All are freshmen. They qualified for the district competition, which will be hosted by the Wright FFA on Feb. 24.

NCHS’ Mayer receives All-State Music award
Natrona County High School senior trumpet player Sara Mayer was recently awarded the Most Outstanding Band Musician Award for the state of Wyoming at the All-State Music Conference. The conference was held Jan. 17-19 in Cheyenne.

NCHS Speech and Debate Team excels at Worland
The Natrona County High School Speech and Debate Team earned second place at the Worland Speech Meet held Jan. 22-23. Eighteen schools competed at the meet. The NCHS place winners:

Kukes an orchestra ‘Director Who Makes A Difference’
Pat Kukes, Natrona County School District director of orchestra, has been named one of School Band and Orchestra magazine’s "50 Directors Who Make A Difference." The magazine selected one instrumental teacher from every state to be honored.

Klone on honor roll at Washburn University
Ashley E. Klone of Casper has been named to the President’s Honor Roll for the 2009 fall semester at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.

Teterud graduates from Chadron State College
Matt Teterud of Casper was one of 183 graduates awarded degrees by Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebr., during winter commencement exercises Friday, Dec. 18 in Armstrong Gym.

ILS teacher receives Who’s Who honor
Ardyth Fritts, intensive life skills (ILS) teacher for the Natrona County School District at Frontier Middle School, has been recognized by the Cambridge Who’s Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

Natrona County High School senior Brandon Rosty has been selected for the U.S. Senate Youth Program.

Coaches honored at Jan. 4 luncheon
A coaches appreciation luncheon will begin at noon Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at the Parkway Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. Ron Olson, 20-year veteran coach, will be the keynote speaker, who will also hold a workshop following the meal. Tim Ray, Natrona County School District athletics and activities manager, encourages all district coaches to attend.

NCHS students bound for All-State Music
Sixteen Natrona County High School students have been selected for All-State Music on Jan. 17-19, 2010, in Cheyenne. They will rehearse for two days and then perform a gala concert the night of Jan. 19.

KWHS students make All-State, All-Northwest
Eight Kelly Walsh High School Choir students were selected to the American Choral Director’s Association All-Northwest Honor Choirs.

NCHS opens Winter Bridges to ninth graders
Ninth-grade students are invited to partake in Winter Bridges from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 4-7.

At the recent Wyoming Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (WAHPERD) annual conference in Riverton, the 2009 awards were distributed.

NCHS students raise money for African children
Natrona County High School H.E.A.R.T. students raised nearly $600 recently for child survivors of AIDS in Africa.

Dean Morgan Junior High honored
Dean Morgan Junior High School was the recipient of the $750 award from Common Cents in Casper and ExxonMobile’s Educational Alliance Program. The award money will be directed to directly impact student input and suggestions as part of the school improvement process.

NCSD celebrates American Education Week
The 88th American Education Week, sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) will place Nov. 15n21. The Natrona County School District will spotlight the week with activities each day during the week to highlight "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”

CollegeInvest awarding college scholarships
Wyoming youth have the chance to win one of three $1,000 college savings accounts through the fourth annual CollegeInvest Wyoming Scholarship Contest.

Dean Morgan Writing Gallery
Help celebrate the positive culture of literacy at Dean Morgan Junior High School by making a submission to the Dean Morgan Writing Gallery. Students in several classes will be posting their creations on the Web site and adults are invited to post their writing samples.
